I started building my weekly shopping list based on the physical stores I actually needed to visit. To avoid running out of things midweek, I made sure to purchase groceries and household staples well in advance. I kept a list of “wants," too. But interestingly, after a week or two on the list, I usually lost interest in those impulse items entirely.
Occasionally, a unique need arose that required a trip to a specialty store. But for most one-off situations, like school spirit days or weddings, I reached out to friends to borrow items or browsed local thrift stores instead.
Overall, I’ve saved a significant amount of money this year, and I feel much better about supporting local markets and independent shops. While I’ve learned a few lessons along the way, I also realized that sometimes, online shopping really is the best tool for the job.
