The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality invites kids in grades six through twelve to enter the second annual Take Care of Texas Video Contest.

The contest is a fun way for students to learn about protecting the environment and come up with creative ways to share this knowledge with others. The contest is open to students throughout Texas, whether they attend a public school, private school, or are home-schooled.

Student videos should be 30 seconds long and portray positive ways Texans can help keep our air and water clean, conserve water and energy, or reduce waste. Videos should include the slogan “Take Care of Texas. It’s the only one we’ve got.”

Three high school students will win scholarships from $500 to $2,500 and three middle school students will win GoPro cameras and accessories, courtesy of Waste Management of Texas Inc.

The contest deadline is Dec. 15, 2017 and the public will have the opportunity to pick their favorite videos Jan. 11 through 25, 2018. After the public narrows down the entries, a panel of TCEQ staff and representatives from WMTX will choose the first, second, and third place winners from each of the grade groups. Winners will be announced Feb. 20, 2018.
