The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality’s Take Care of Texas program announces the winners of its 4th annual art contest. Kindergarten through 5th grade students submitted artwork showing how they help keep the air and water clean, conserve water and energy, and reduce waste.

Abigail Valdez, a 4th grader at Resaca Elementary in Brownsville, is awarded the grand prize for her colorful drawing. Her project was chosen over approximately 2,600 other entries statewide.

On May 16, TCEQ Commissioners, Region 15 Director Jaime Garza, and a representative from the contest partner, Samsung Austin Semiconductor, will present Valdez with a new Samsung laptop.

Each of the TCEQ regional offices also selected winners. Regional winners received a Samsung tablet for their creative work. Valdez’ teacher, Jesus Rosales, also received a Samsung tablet.

The winning art pieces will also be showcased on the Take Care of Texas and TCEQ websites, newsletters, and social media.
